In 1998, after spending years commuting to the North West, it was time to relocate the factory to the family home in South Norfolk.
A purpose built £165,000 factory was erected at Aloe Farm, built by Robbie himself with a little help from the family. Work was completed in just 4 months allowing Sound Sleep and some of the staff from Burnley to move to their new home.
Twelve articulated lorries full of machinery, fillings, springs, timber and ticking were unloaded over a weekend to ensure no disruption to manufacturing.
After just a few months, word was out that there was a bed factory locally, members of the public wanted to buy their beds direct. We started with a few beds displayed in the corner of the factory for customers to buy at weekends. Demand grew, and November 2000 saw the opening of our own onsite showroom, which was located in our storage buildings.
With an extension within just a year, Sound Sleep’s retail division was booming.
In 2007, Robbie took early retirement and relocated to sunnier climbs, leaving his son Andrew to take the reigns. After 7 years in the business, Andrew with help and advise from his father pushed Sound Sleep into a more prominent position in the retail market. Building a new onsite showroom opening up the range to 65 beds, with furniture and bedsteads too.
2010, was an incredibly exciting year for Sound Sleep, because for the first time we became stockist of branded names as well as our own brand. To enable this, another extension was needed to give us the capability for a display of 100 beds.
As a family retail business, Andrew along with his mother and sister, Trish and Amie we have over 55 years retail experience.
The Bright family have been selling and manufacturing beds for three generations.
Note from Andrew...
Beds and mattresses is something that our whole family is passionate about. My father, my uncles and even my grandparents have all been in this business since the early 80s. Things have changed considerably since then, with so much new technology, new manufacturing processes and more choice with the internet too. There is one thing that will never change, that is old fashioned values and service. My mother, sister and myself are committed to providing a professional service and above all.... KNOWLEDGE! It’s so upsetting the amount of rubbish some sales people come up with, because they are trying to sell one product over another. Best one ever.....
‘Springs may fall out of the bottom of the mattress if they are too small’
Not at all possible!! No way.......never!
I promise that if you come into Sound Sleep, you will be given the best advise that we can give. With no pressure or obligation to buy.
Hope to see you soon!
Andrew
